...a return to human hands...
This edition of the Honeybee Journal was inspired by the not-so-slow creep of technology and its crowding out of work done by human hands. In it, we take a moment to reflect upon how our ancestors lived and consider just what makes the work of handmade so important.

About the Author
Hi. I'm Elyse, the voice behind Honeybee Journal. I grew up in the foothills of Los Angeles, CA. My days were often spent running around barefoot in the backyard, huddling up next to a warm, cozy fire, stomping around the local mountains, and taking a moment to watch the breathtaking sunsets from the view in our backyard. As my husband put it, “If I were to live in LA, there isn’t a better place than here.”
We had a ¼ acre of land, though it was more like a ½ acre when you take into account the connected property our Grandparent’s owned next door. Despite living in a big city, I don’t consider myself a ‘city kid.’ With chickens, dogs, bears, coyotes, bob cats, the occasional mountain lion, a large garden, a fixer-upper home that always needed work, and a neighbor with horses, a tortoise, and llamas just up the street I had a childhood a far cry from typical big city life.
About the Journal
This journal is a passion project that has taken shape over many years. It began as a desire to share knowledge in a peaceful, unobtrusive format. With many of our lives being bombarded by information overload, the last thing I want to do is be a contributing factor.
The Journal has morphed and changed over the years as I have grown and clarified what I want to contribute to those who encounter my work. What remains is a publication free from ads, sponsorships, and promotions designed to be an experience that calms your nervous system, provides space to digest and reflect, and encourages the flourishing of your own life.
Join me, in print or online, for a journey towards a simple, meaningful life. The Honeybee Journal: rooted in a love of dirt, good food, family, creating a life worth truly living, and a desire to share it all with you.
